Building Blocks

How often do you consciously think about the building blocks of your organization? What are the key fundamentals that come to mind when you think about what is critical to your operations?

Identifying and defining the models that represent your business can only be done right by paying attention to how one thinks about, and describes the organization.

Consider this: the typical description of an organization will include terms like “passionate about customers”, “quality products”, “global markets”, “boutique manufacturer”, “recognized brands such as … ” , etc

It is important to brainstorm and truly describe the full realm of your business. Think about what is important from your customers’ point of view, and how in turn you project and present your business to them. How you do that today, and how you wish to do it tomorrow.

It is easy to think about building blocks and fall into the generic and most obvious “customers, vendors, products, etc”. Sure, any business can be described in terms of these elements, but that is a generic structure.

The key to unlocking the insights within that generic structure, generic building blocks, is how you organize the information.

If you are looking to leverage your data for specific insights into your business, and are wanting to gain a competitive advantage by allowing your resources to focus on what is TRULY important to the organization, you need to design your systems and organize your data in a manner that truly reflects the DNA of your specific business. Build upon that generic standard for business systems setup, and compile the full picture matching the description of your business, in a structured, methodical manner.
